Is It Really ADHD?
by Arthur Buchanan

Is It Really ADHD?
Not everyone who is overly hyperactive, inattentive, or impulsive has ADHD. Since most people sometimes blurt out things they didn’t mean to say, or jump from one task to another, or become disorganized and forgetful, how can specialists tell if the problem is ADHD?
Because everyone shows some of these behaviors at times, the diagnosis requires that such behavior be demonstrated to a degree that is inappropriate for the person’s age. The diagnostic guidelines also contain specific requirements for determining when the symptoms indicate ADHD. The behaviors must appear early in life, before age 7, and continue for at least 6 months. Above all, the behaviors must create a real handicap in at least two areas of a person’s life such as in the schoolroom, on the playground, at home, in the community, or in social settings. So someone who shows some symptoms but whose schoolwork or friendships are not impaired by these behaviors would not be diagnosed with ADHD. Nor would a child who seems overly active on the playground but functions well elsewhere receive an ADHD diagnosis.
To assess whether a child has ADHD, specialists consider several critical questions: Are these behaviors excessive, long-term, and pervasive? That is, do they occur more often than in other children the same age? Are they a continuous problem, not just a response to a temporary situation? Do the behaviors occur in several settings or only in one specific place like the playground or in the schoolroom? The person’s pattern of behavior is compared against a set of criteria and characteristics of the disorder as listed in the DSM-IV-TR.
Some parents see signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in their toddler long before the child enters school. The child may lose interest in playing a game or watching a TV show, or may run around completely out of control. But because children mature at different rates and are very different in personality, temperament, and energy levels, it’s useful to get an expert’s opinion of whether the behavior is appropriate for the child’s age. Parents can ask their child’s pediatrician, or a child psychologist or psychiatrist, to assess whether their toddler has an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or is, more likely at this age, just immature or unusually exuberant.
ADHD may be suspected by a parent or caretaker or may go unnoticed until the child runs into problems at school. Given that ADHD tends to affect functioning most strongly in school, sometimes the teacher is the first to recognize that a child is hyperactive or inattentive and may point it out to the parents and/or consult with the school psychologist. Because teachers work with many children, they come to know how “average” children behave in learning situations that require attention and self-control. However, teachers sometimes fail to notice the needs of children who may be more inattentive and passive yet who are quiet and cooperative, such as those with the predominantly inattentive form of ADHD.
Professionals Who Make the Diagnosis.
If ADHD is suspected, to whom can the family turn? What kinds of specialists do they need?
Ideally, the diagnosis should be made by a professional in your area with training in ADHD or in the diagnosis of mental disorders. Child psychiatrists and psychologists, developmental/behavioral pediatricians, or behavioral neurologists are those most often trained in differential diagnosis. Clinical social workers may also have such training.
The family can start by talking with the child’s pediatrician or their family doctor. Some pediatricians may do the assessment themselves, but often they refer the family to an appropriate mental health specialist they know and trust. In addition, state and local agencies that serve families and children, as well as some of the volunteer organizations listed at the end of this document, can help identify appropriate specialists.

Psychologists Yes No Yes

Pediatricians or
Family Physicians Yes Yes No

Neurologists Yes Yes No

Clinical Social
workers Yes No Yes
Knowing the differences in qualifications and services can help the family choose someone who can best meet their needs. There are several types of specialists qualified to diagnose and treat ADHD. Child psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating childhood mental and behavioral disorders. A psychiatrist can provide therapy and prescribe any needed medications. Child psychologists are also qualified to diagnose and treat ADHD. They can provide therapy for the child and help the family develop ways to deal with the disorder. But psychologists are not medical doctors and must rely on the child’s physician to do medical exams and prescribe medication. Neurologists, doctors who work with disorders of the brain and nervous system, can also diagnose ADHD and prescribe medicines. But unlike psychiatrists and psychologists, neurologists usually do not provide therapy for the emotional aspects of the disorder.
Within each specialty, individual doctors and mental health professionals differ in their experiences with ADHD. So in selecting a specialist, it’s important to find someone with specific training and experience in diagnosing and treating the disorder.
Whatever the specialist’s expertise, his or her first task is to gather information that will rule out other possible reasons for the child’s behavior. Among possible causes of ADHD-like behavior are the following:
A sudden change in the child’s life—the death of a parent or grandparent; parents’ divorce; a parent’s job loss
Undetected seizures, such as in petit mal or temporal lobe seizures
A middle ear infection that causes intermittent hearing problems
Medical disorders that may affect brain functioning
Underachievement caused by learning disability
Anxiety or depression.
Ideally, in ruling out other causes, the specialist checks the child’s school and medical records. There may be a school record of hearing or vision problems, since most schools automatically screen for these. The specialist tries to determine whether the home and classroom environments are unusually stressful or chaotic, and how the child’s parents and teachers deal with the child.
Next the specialist gathers information on the child’s ongoing behavior in order to compare these behaviors to the symptoms and diagnostic criteria listed in the DSM-IV-TR. This also involves talking with the child and, if possible, observing the child in class and other settings.
The child’s teachers, past and present, are asked to rate their observations of the child’s behavior on standardized evaluation forms, known as behavior rating scales, to compare the child’s behavior to that of other children the same age. While rating scales might seem overly subjective, teachers often get to know so many children that their judgment of how a child compares to others is usually a reliable and valid measure.
The specialist interviews the child’s teachers and parents, and may contact other people who know the child well, such as coaches or baby-sitters. Parents are asked to describe their child’s behavior in a variety of situations. They may also fill out a rating scale to indicate how severe and frequent the behaviors seem to be.
In most cases, the child will be evaluated for social adjustment and mental health. Tests of intelligence and learning achievement may be given to see if the child has a learning disability and whether the disability is in one or more subjects.
In looking at the results of these various sources of information, the specialist pays special attention to the child’s behavior during situations that are the most demanding of self-control, as well as noisy or unstructured situations such as parties, or during tasks that require sustained attention, like reading, working math problems, or playing a board game. Behavior during free play or while getting individual attention is given less importance in the evaluation. In such situations, most children with ADHD are able to control their behavior and perform better than in more restrictive situations.
The specialist then pieces together a profile of the child’s behavior. Which ADHD-like behaviors listed in the most recent DSM does the child show? How often? In what situations? How long has the child been doing them? How old was the child when the problem started? Are the behavior problems relatively chronic or enduring or are they periodic in nature? Are the behaviors seriously interfering with the child’s friendships, school activities, home life, or participation in community activities? Does the child have any other related problems? The answers to these questions help identify whether the child’s hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention are significant and long-standing. If so, the child may be diagnosed with ADHD.
A correct diagnosis often resolves confusion about the reasons for the child’s problems that lets parents and child move forward in their lives with more accurate information on what is wrong and what can be done to help. Once the disorder is diagnosed, the child and family can begin to receive whatever combination of educational, medical, and emotional help they need. This may include providing recommendations to school staff, seeking out a more appropriate classroom setting, selecting the right medication, and helping parents to manage their child’s behavior.

Happy National Puzzle Day

Date When Celebrated : Event is always January 29

Don’t be puzzled by today. National Puzzle Day honors puzzles of all size, shape and form. Crossword puzzles are by far the most common. Sudoku, a number puzzle, is the most recent puzzle rage. There’s easy puzzles, and there’s puzzles for experts. They fit the needs of every person, and every skill level.

Puzzles are a favorite pastime of millions of people, young and old. So, what’s with this fascination over puzzles? There’s numerous reasons for it’s popularity. For many, doing puzzles is fun. Some people just like the challenge of completing them, and graduating to evermore complex and difficult puzzle solving levels. For others, it is a way to kill time, and to eliminate boredom. Others still, do puzzles to keep their mind sharp, or to learn new words.

Whatever the cause for your interest, spend National Puzzle Day doing puzzles.

Origin of National Puzzle Day:

Who created this day and when remains a puzzle.

There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of congress.

The Meaning Of Dreams

There is a guiding principle to dream interpretation, and Edgar Cayce said it best when he called for us to “interpret the dreamer” and not just the dream.

There is a guiding principle to dream interpretation, and Edgar Cayce said it best when he called for us to “interpret the dreamer” and not just the dream.

Dreams are a tool, like the proverbial “finger pointing to the moon.” Don’t focus on the finger or you will miss out on all the heavenly glory. Dreams are the finger and they are pointing to the dreamer. Interpreting your dreams is an exercise in self-discovery and self-growth. They are almost always referring back to you and every character, image and emotion is usually referring to various parts of your psyche.

The primary purpose of dreams is to attempt to balance the psyche. Keeping this in mind will help you understand the meaning of your dreams and prevent you from getting way off track in your interpretation.

Trying to understand one dream in isolation is like trying to understand a person by spending one day with them. By recording all of your dreams in a dream journal you will, over time, find it easier to understand individual dreams you have in the future.

Dreams are like plays or movies that we create every night, and they have a similar structure. It can be helpful to look for this structure when trying to understand your dreams:

oEstablishment of a LOCATION. Where does the dream take place? How do you feel about that place? What emotions arise within you as you think about it? Does it have any relationship with a real place you know?

oIntroduction of the CHARACTERS. Who are the characters? How are you presented? Who is the antagonist? How do you feel about each of those people (including the presentation of yourself), and how do they relate to parts of your own personality or to people you know?

oHow does the PLOT unfold? There is usually a beginning (where the story is established and begins to build), a middle (where a crisis peaks), and an end (where the crisis get resolved – though sometimes dreams don’t provide the solution and end in the middle of the story because it is up to you to provide the resolution).

Sometimes (rarely) dreams can be very literal and they are easy to understand. There is nothing wrong with asking whether the face value of the dream may have meaning for you.

Most often, however, dreams are shrouded in symbolism that points beyond the literal image. They can be trying to communicate a very specific message that applies to your waking life, they may be merely trying to balance your emotional life or they may just be hinting at some thoughts or emotions in progress without any final resolution yet in mind.

Dreams are often messages from our subconscious mind that are resisted by our conscious mind. For this reason, the subconscious often cloaks the message in symbols so the dream isn’t immediately rejected or simply avoided by the conscious mind.

Unraveling these symbols can be very difficult, but also a lot of fun. It’s the ultimate mystery and the most elaborate puzzle, but the answer is always within you.

Sometimes the answers are as simple as consulting a dream dictionary for the meaning of common symbols and archetypes. However, each person is different and has their individual “dream dictionary.” To make things even more interesting, your personal dream dictionary can change over time.

Interpreting your dreams can provide you a life-long quest that goes way beyond the puzzle solving of the Da Vinci Code, but can also be much more rewarding.

High School Graduation Party Ideas For Easy Party Planning
by Dee Schrock

It’s not too early to start planning for the graduate’s big day. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.
Give out fun 2006 sunglasses for all the kids to wear, and a crown for the special graduate
Create your own invitations by drawing graduation themes such as diplomas and graduation caps. You can roll the invitation to look like a diploma.
Games & Activities
Kids love to get together and just talk- so remember not to overdo the planned activities. Here are a few to choose from:
*Guests bring a white t-shirt and sign each other’s shirts.
*Do a time capsule with memorable items from their school year- to be opened at a future reunion. Guests place personal notes to the graduate as memorable keepsakes.
*Make a large poster board collage of the graduate’s pictures from baby to now.
*Water balloon toss
*Place a sticker on each guest’s back with the name of a teacher. Guests give clues and help the person guess that teacher.
*Pin the tail on the teacher. Tape a teacher’s picture to a wall and then the “tail” can be any item of choice- crazy hair, earring, etc.
Food & Drink
Any finger food works well, since guests are more interested in talking and socializing. Nachos served in miniature sombreros and salsa is great to have on each table.
Above all, provide an atmosphere for that is comfortable for plenty of conversation and reminiscing. Happy graduation!

Happy Data Privacy Day

Date When Celebrated : Always January 28

In our digital and cyberspace world, data privacy is becoming an increasingly important issue. Every day, seems to bring another incident of a breach in security, resulting in the theft of  personal data affecting millions of us.

Hacking and breaking into corporate and government databases is being accomplished by young kids, cyber crooks, and foreign governments. our privacy is also affected by companies that sell our personal contact information. That’s one way we get on those snail mail and email mailing lists, resulting in countless amounts of junk mail.

Today is a day for business to make positive and effective efforts to protect the privacy of their customers and their personal data. It’s the perfect day for companies to hold forums and meetings to identify and eliminate weaknesses in their security systems.

It is also a day for you to get proactive in pushing businesses and government to do more to protect personal data and records.

Data Privacy Day is an international effort.  Many corporations are international. And, many hackers are outside he U.S.

Origin of Data Security Day:

We found no information about who started this special day or when. It appears to have been around at least since 2010.

Computer Security Ethics and Privacy

Today, many people rely on computers to do homework, work, and create or store useful information. Therefore, it is important for the information on the computer to be stored and kept properly. It is also extremely important for people on computers to protect their computer from data loss, misuse, and abuse.  For example, it is crucial for businesses to keep information they have secure so that hackers can’t access the information. Home users also need to take means to make sure that their credit card numbers are secure when they are participating in online transactions.  A computer security risk is any action that could cause lost of information, software, data, processing incompatibilities, or cause damage to computer hardware,   a lot of these are planned to do damage. An intentional breach in computer security is known as a computer crime which is slightly different from a cypercrime. A cybercrime is known as illegal acts based on the internet and is one of the FBI’s top priorities.  There are several distinct categories for people that cause cybercrimes, and they are refereed as hacker, cracker, cyberterrorist, cyberextortionist, unethical employee, script kiddie and corporate spy.  The term hacker was actually known as a good word but now it has a very negative view. A hacker is defined as someone who accesses a computer or computer network unlawfully.  They often claim that they do this to find leaks in the security of a network. The term cracker has never been associated with something positive this refers to someone how intentionally access a computer or computer network for evil reasons. It’s basically an evil hacker.  They access it with the intent of destroying, or stealing information. Both crackers and hackers are very advanced with network skills.  A cyberterrorist is someone who uses a computer network or the internet to destroy computers for political reasons.  It’s just like a regular terrorist attack because it requires highly skilled individuals, millions of dollars to implement, and years of planning. The term cyperextortionist is someone who uses emails as an offensive force. They would usually send a company a very threatening email stating that they will release some confidential information, exploit a security leak, or launch an attack that will harm a company’s network. They will request a paid amount to not proceed sort of like black mailing in a since. An unethical employee is an employee that illegally accesses their company’s network for numerous reasons. One could be the money they can get from selling top secret information, or some may be bitter and want revenge. A script kiddie is someone who is like a cracker because they may have the intentions of doing harm, but they usually lack the technical skills. They are usually silly teenagers that use prewritten hacking and cracking programs. A corporate spy has extremely high computer and network skills and is hired to break into a specific computer or computer network to steal or delete data and information. Shady companies hire these type people in a practice known as corporate espionage. They do this to gain an advantage over their competition an illegal practice. Business and home users must do their best to protect or safeguard their computers from security risks. The next part of this article will give some pointers to help protect your computer. However, one must remember that there is no one hundred percent guarantee way to protect your computer so becoming more knowledgeable about them is a must during these days. When you transfer information over a network it has a high security risk compared to information transmitted in a business network because the administrators usually take some extreme measures to help protect against security risks. Over the internet there is no powerful administrator which makes the risk a lot higher. If your not sure if your computer is vulnerable to a computer risk than you can always use some-type of online security service which is a website that checks your computer for email and Internet vulnerabilities. The company will then give some pointers on how to correct these vulnerabilities.  The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center is a place that can do this. The typical network attacks that puts computers at risk includes viruses, worms, spoofing, Trojan horses, and denial of service attacks.  Every unprotected computer is vulnerable to a computer virus which is a potentially harming computer program that infects a computer negatively and altering the way the computer operates without the user’s consent. Once the virus is in the computer it can spread throughout infecting other files and potentially damaging the operating system itself. It’s similar to a bacteria virus that infects humans because it gets into the body through small openings and can spread to other parts of the body and can cause some damage. The similarity is, the best way to avoid is preparation.  A computer worm is a program that repeatedly copies itself and is very similar to a computer virus. However the difference is that a virus needs o attach itself to an executable file and become a part of it. A computer worm doesn’t need to do that I seems copies to itself and to other networks and eats up a lot of bandwidth. A Trojan Horse named after the famous Greek myth and is used to describe a program that secretly hides and actually looks like a legitimate program but is a fake.  A certain action usually triggers the Trojan horse, and unlike viruses and worms they don’t replicate itself. Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are all classifies as malicious-logic programs which are just programs that deliberately harms a computer.  Although these are the common three there are many more variations and it would be almost impossible to list them. You know when a computer is infected by a virus, worm, or Trojan horse if one or more of these acts happen:

  • Screen shots of weird messages or pictures appear.
  • You have less available memory then you expected
  • Music or sounds plays randomly.
  • Files get corrupted
  • Programs are files don’t work properly
  • Unknown files or programs randomly appear
  • System properties fluctuate

Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses deliver their payload or instructions through four common ways. One, when an individual runs an infected program so if you download a lot of things you should always scan the files before executing, especially executable files. Second, is when an individual runs an infected program. Third, is when an individual bots a computer with an infected drive, so that’s why it’s important to not leave media files in your computer when you shut it down.  Fourth is when it connects an unprotected computer to a network. Today, a very common way that people get a computer virus, worm, or Trojan horse is when they open up an infected file through an email attachment. There are literally thousands of computer malicious logic programs and new one comes out by the numbers so that’s why it’s important to keep up to date with new ones that come out each day. Many websites keep track of this. There is no known method for completely protecting a computer or computer network from computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, but people can take several precautions to significantly reduce their chances of being infected by one of those malicious programs.  Whenever you start a computer you should have no removable media in he drives. This goes for CD, DVD, and floppy disks. When the computer starts up it tries to execute a bot sector on the drives and even if it’s unsuccessful any given various on the bot sector can infect the computer’s hard disk. If you must start the computer for a particular reason, such as the hard disk fails and you are trying to reformat the drive make sure that the disk is not infected.

A Gift Basket For A Golfer Lover!
by Donna Hamer

The choice of what gift to give your family and friends can often be a difficult one. One of the best gifts that you can give is a gift basket. A gift basket is that one present that comes in many shapes, themes and of course, price ranges. A gift basket is easy and fun to make.
The diversity of gift baskets is never-ending. You can give a weekend pack gift basket or a relaxing gift basket (required after a weekend away playing golf) or a simple basket with balls and tees. The type of gift basket you choose and create is only limited by your imagination.
Here is a simple basket that you can easily create yourself for that special “Golf Mad Person”:
Pick a gift basket style. I like to use either a Golf Bag or a bucket (try a metal or heavy plastic golf ball bucket, like the ones at a driving range) which later can be used for collection of practice balls.
Next select a variety of items that have a golf theme which will later be packed into the decorative basket that you have chosen especially for the recipient.
When selecting the gifts for the Golf Lover choose items such as golf balls, personalized golf balls, tees and ball markers, books about golfing, golfing coffee mugs, golf theme mouse pads, sunscreen, waterproof raingear, golfing shirts and handheld golf games.
To add a little extra to your gift basket for the Golf Lover include:
A cap with their name embroidered on the front, a personalized hand towel and a video on improving their golf game.
If you are on a budget try a small gift basket. I would suggest using a metal bucket and include some sunscreen, tees and balls.
When you are finished, wrap the Gift Basket with cellophane paper and raffia to give it a finishing touch. Use shredded paper inside the basket to hold the goodies in place. Tie a tee with a message attached to it for that added touch.

Strategies For Regaining Your Work Life Balance
Read about nine strategies that, taken together, can help to change course without abandoning the destination and help you restore your work life balance.
I like working with independent professionals and artists because of the way the work life balance shows itself in our lives – for us, life, work, and business exist in a nexus from which we cannot easily extract our ways of loving, relating, and making meaning. The challenges we face in business inform our personal lives and personal challenges affect our businesses.

Rich as it is, the relationship between personal and professional life can be rocky and maintaining the work life balance is often a tricky issue. I experienced this recently when, within a few weeks of declaring some audacious goals for my business, a routine mammogram turned up some abnormalities. In the following weeks I had additional mammography, a biopsy, and surgery, with the happy outcome that the abnormalities were benign. I wanted to put the experience behind me and get back to work, full speed ahead.

The problem was that I didn’t feel like it. I enjoyed my client work and my speaking engagements, but I dreaded the creative and analytic work related to teleclasses and Internet marketing. Try as I might, I just didn’t have the juice for these projects. On the life side, I felt I needed time and energy for processing, renewal and restoring my inner balance; on the work side I felt I needed to make up for lost time.

I’ve been caught between the promptings of my spirit and the requirements of my business more than a few times, and I know pat success formulas don’t help. I also know it is possible to take care of ourselves and our businesses if we are willing to do the work.

Here are nine strategies that, taken together, can help to change course without abandoning the destination and help you restore your work life balance:

1. Don’t panic.

Even if you feel panicky, you can choose modest, recoverable steps to address the situation. This is no time to get a divorce, fire an employee, or buy a new computer system. Tip: Talk with a coach or therapist to get perspective.

2. Return to Source.

Whatever your spiritual orientation or tradition, connect with what for you is the Source of life or spirit. Know that there is something larger than you that encompasses you. Spend at least 15 minutes each day connecting with that Source. (I like Mark Silver’s Remembrance Practice described in his free downloadable workbook Getting to the Core of Your Business.)

3. Take a body inventory.

Are you sleeping well? How are you eating? What’s your energy level? If these are not up to par, get a professional evaluation and take the steps that will restore your well being.

4. Tell the truth.

Sometimes energy flags when we’ve gotten into a pattern of pleasing others or living according to standards that are not our own. Notice if there is any disbalance. Notice where you’re being less than forthright and get clear about your motives, then clean it up. (Talking to a coach or therapist can facilitate clear, authentic communication.)

5. Keep good company.

Are you stimulated and encouraged by your peers and clients? Do you have great playmates? Playing on the wrong playground with the wrong kids is neither fun nor productive.

6. Tune Up Your Thinking.

There’s substantial evidence that managing the way we think can have a profound and lasting effect on mood and motivation. See for books you can use to tune up your cognitive skills and/or make a date with a therapist. (If you are otherwise in good psychological health a skilled coach can help, too.)

7. Set Healthy, Flexible Boundaries.

Yes, real life and real business are intimately connected, but that doesn’t mean that you need to give up your privacy. To find your work life balance, set boundaries so that you can feel generous without feeling depleted and available without feeling invaded. Keep them flexible, because (doncha know?) things change.

8. Create or Refine Systems.

We can’t manage real life and a real business without good systems. Look at where things feel most out of sorts and resolve to create or improve a system to get things on track.

9. Keep the Goal, Drop the Plan.

Sometimes the best way to achieve a goal is to let go of our plans. Promptly and clearly revise commitments and offers as necessary to bring current activity in line with current resources. Why abandon ship when you can drop anchor while you make some repairs (or while you enjoy a few weeks in the sun!)?

As for me, these strategies led me to postpone the re-launch of the Authentic Promotion teleclass and take a break from Internet marketing. Having stopped the war between myself and my business, I restored my work life balance and now feel more engaged with the things that I choose to take on (like writing this article.) My audacious goals are now shining possibilities instead of looming obligations, and if it takes a little longer to reach them, arriving will be all the sweeter.

Psalm 9 A refuge in times of trouble
Psalm 9 A refuge in times of trouble

Psalm 9 New King James Version (NKJV)

Prayer and Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Righteous Judgments

To the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Death of the Son.”[a] A Psalm of David.

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They shall fall and perish at Your presence.
For You have maintained my right and my cause;
You sat on the throne judging in righteousness.
You have rebuked the nations,
You have destroyed the wicked;
You have blotted out their name forever and ever.

O enemy, destructions are finished forever!
And you have destroyed cities;
Even their memory has perished.
But the Lord shall endure forever;
He has prepared His throne for judgment.
He shall judge the world in righteousness,
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.
10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion!
Declare His deeds among the people.
12 When He avenges blood, He remembers them;
He does not forget the cry of the humble.

13 Have mercy on me, O Lord!
Consider my trouble from those who hate me,
You who lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may tell of all Your praise
In the gates of the daughter of Zion.
I will rejoice in Your salvation.

15 The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made;
In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.
16 The Lord is known by the judgment He executes;
The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.

Meditation.[b] Selah

17 The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And all the nations that forget God.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten;
The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

19 Arise, O Lord,
Do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be judged in Your sight.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord,
That the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah

Apart From God, We Can Do Nothing
by Daniel N Brown

Every person is created unique, with different characteristics, skills, and abilities. These gifts are then to be used to minister to, and bless other people.
When Jesus said, “Ask the Father anything in My name and He will give it to you” (John 16:23), He did not intend for this to be a license to treat God as some cosmic bell-boy who should come and cater to our every whim.
We cannot be blessed without first being a blessing. We are to keep God first in our lives, then people second, and then ourselves last. Only in this order can we be a blessing and be blessed.
When Jesus said, “Ask the Father anything in My name,” He meant that you should ask according to His will. Unless you ask according to His will your prayers will be ineffective. James 4:3 says, “You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your own lusts.”
So, how do we ask according to His will, have our prayers answered, and be successful? By abiding in Him.
Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I will abide in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5).
The meaning of the word “abide,” means “to live” or “to dwell.” So, when Jesus said, “Abide in Me,” He meant that we are to submit to Him and let Him have full reign in our lives, allowing Him to lead. Since Jesus Christ and the Word of God are one in the same (John 1:14), when we abide in Christ, we abide in the Word.
When we abide in the Word, we are allowing God to instruct us and teach us in the way we should go (Psalm 32:8). He will also guide us to pray according to His will and our prayers will have a guaranteed effect.
God wants to use your personal, unique, skills, and abilities to bless other people. This is why He made you and gave you the characteristics you posses. When you use them for what they are meant for, you will then be ultimately successful.

Date When Celebrated : Event is always January 27

Every once in a while, you come upon a special day that just defies definition. Punch the Clock Day is one of those days. Despite all of our research, we found no content information on the Internet to define the purpose or meaning of this day. And, you won’t find information about today in the old Encyclopedias either.

But, Punch the Clock Day is prolific on Ecard and calendar websites. So, it must truly be an important day of the year, right!?!

Not ones to give up easily, we put our thinking caps on, and pondered the meaning of this day.  We quickly determined that this day is not intended to encourage people to punch their clocks. This is destructive, serves no logical purpose, and may result in personal injury.

Smart as we are (tee,hee), we quickly surmised that Punch the Clock Day is a day to celebrate the punch clock or time clocks used at work. Now, we wondered, why celebrate the punch clock…………??

Origin of Punch the Clock Day:

We have yet to discover who created this day, or the original date of creation.

If you have any information about this holiday, please email us.

Readers’ Comments:

“This holiday celebrates the system of calculating employee work hours through the Punch Clock system and its invention. On this holiday you are encouraged to share a day of celebration at your work place. Girl Scout Leader Uses NLP Coaching To Encourage Shy, Withdrawn 5 Year Old Girl To Speak
by Andrea Amador

NeuroLinguistic Programming, or NLP, is a much used tool in many coaching practices but the tool can, and should, be applied to situations in our every day lives as NLP has several techniques for diagnosing and intervening in certain situations.
Let’s Meet Erica
Erica is an engaging and beautiful five year-old: a mess of long brown hair, expressive eyes and a delicate air of innocence. Erica, like many little girls, is a proud member of a Brownie Troop. Unlike most girls, however, Erica never spoke. Outside her home, Erica transformed into a shy flower who was terrified to make herself heard.
Week after week, Erica would attend her troop meetings and pass them in total silence. After seven months of silent participation, the girls were offered an opportunity to present a play to a group of younger Girl Scouts.
Erica’s Troop Leader wanted to ensure that Erica did not miss out on the incredibly opportunity to collaborate with the girls in her troop and share in the joy of post-performance accomplishment.
The girls were charged with creating the entire play: writing the script, preparing costumes and producing the play. Erica would sit silently, working diligently at the tasks the other girls assigned. Because of her inability to feel confident speaking to the troop, she was missing out on a chance to be heard and fully contribute her special beauty to the play.
Determined that no child be left out, the Troop Leader gathered the girls together one evening and began teaching them an NLP technique called Anchoring.
An anchor is a unique stimulus that involves multiple senses to stimulate and stir the brain to remember and recall a particular resource. It is a way to get in touch with a specific feeling, recall and recreate it in the body at will.
The Troop Leader approached Erica and asked her, “Erica, can you say, I’m a strawberry?” Erica’s face turned a deep shade of crimson and her eyes drifted to her shoes. Her reply was barely audible: “…bewwy” she mumbled rather unintelligibly.
The Troop Leader recognized the incredible courage it took for Erica to reply and set to reinforce Erica’s personal triumph. She crouched down so as to be eye-to-eye with Erica and gazed into her eyes, smiled and said “Erica, you have the most beautiful voice that I had ever heard. Your words and thoughts are a precious gift. Thank you for sharing your voice with me. Could you please say them one more time so that we could all listen?”
Slowly, the Troop Leader asked her girls to surround Erica. All the girls in the troop loved Erica and wanted to support her in her first tentative verbal steps. They waited for Erica to speak.
Erica smiled tentatively and said the word, “bewwy” again.
The Troop Leader then guided each girl to make full eye contact with Erica. They all took turns making full eye contact with her, smiling, applauding and hugging her. Through their collective actions, the troop showered Erica with multiple images and feelings of positive reinforcement.
The Troop Leader coaxed another sentence out of Erica and response from the troop, guiding Erica to touch her hand in a unique way as the girls began to respond lovingly to her words, knowing that the touch would enable Erica to reproduce the same feelings of support on her own.
The next time that she spoke the word “bewwy” she smiled with pride, knowing that she had accomplished something great and that she was loved and valued.
By the end of that session, Erica was talking a blue streak. She was saying things like, “I wuv giwl scouts and I have de best weader.”
The simple little change that Erica felt and experienced that day is just a small building block to the foundation that she will need to become a woman who is strong and self empowered, capable of leading others like her to their own healing.
NLP Anchoring
The NLP Anchoring process can be broken down into four steps.
For ease of illustration, we’ll use confidence as the desired feeling. Everyone can use a little more confidence. As you read through each of the steps, take time to reflect and respond.
1. Recall a time in your life when you felt confident.
Allow your mind to run a movie of that memory. See what you were seeing, feel what you felt at that time. If there were sounds, hear those sounds, tune into what you were saying to yourself and how you felt about that. Make the memory vivid and as real as you possibly can. Use your imagination.
Now kick it up a notch to expand all the senses. Make the colors brighter, the images larger and the sounds more clear and vibrant, you might even want to add a soundtrack of your favorite music, whatever you can do to make the image unique and more powerful is best and most effective for best results.
2. Choose a place on your body where you will touch yourself or use an object to remind you of that feeling of the time when you felt confident (ie use a keychain or a small hand held object.)
You can also visualize a symbol that represents the meaning of what you want to anchor. For example, you could visualize making a fist and putting it up into the air in a power move and saying, “Yes!”
Now combine that touch with the actual memory. Right before the point in the movie when the feeling is the most intense, you fire off the anchor by using the unique touch or any other method of anchoring that you have chosen.
3. Repeat the process.
Think of the time when you felt confident and fire off the anchor by touching the object, visualizing the image, hearing the sounds, feeling the sensations in your body or creating that unique touch.
4. Test it out.
Fire off the anchor. You should expect to be instantly transported to a time in your memory when you felt confident. If not, repeat the process until you get the desired feeling on demand.
And finally: Remember to have fun!
NLP is a great process and it works surprisingly well – magically transforming negative situations (or collapsing negative anchors) and installing new empowering ones.
Isn’t it time you started chopping some of those daunting memories that have been preventing you from being the best person you can be?

Psalm 8 how majestic is your name

Psalm 8 how majestic is your name

Psalm 8 how majestic is your name
Psalm 8 how majestic is your name

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;

what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,

all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Power of God Makes Life Easier
by Missionary Georgia Jackson

When the storms in your life are raging, just believe, “the power of God makes life easier.” Additionally, the real key to dealing with problems that challenge us daily while seeking peace, is found in the wisdom of God’s Word. He plays a vital role in every aspect of our character, and life’s journey requires help that only God can provide.
Today, people are exposed to various negative influences, and the ability to remain positive and confident is critical. One solution is to use your faith and make God first in your life. The windows of Heaven will open up, and He’ll pour you out blessings you won’t have room enough to receive. Faith in God allows Him to solve problems. Sometimes, there is no way to explain an event, except it was God’s grace that worked out a problem. However, grace is essential when you need Him to work on your behalf. Humble yourself by doing things God’s way. Life is about sowing a seed and reaping the harvest! You will experience prosperity along all lines, while God reveals your hidden talents and sets you on the road to spiritual growth.
Perhaps you may have a “Red Sea” in your life right now, and your spirit needs uplifting. I challenge you to try Jesus. He is a problem solver. If you feel you are living in a fiery furnace, go into your closet where you pray and ask God to deliver you. Just believe He is able even if you have to steal away in the midnight hour and pray. God will have the last word if you let His word have the main authority.
Please know and believe that your roadmap to spiritual prosperity will be accomplished if you continue to lean on Jesus and seek more grace. You must go on inspite of circumstances and view every battle as an opportunity for victory.
